MJ was three whiskys in when she arrived at The Standard for her wedding. The first thing she said to me “We should have eloped” as she ordered another. Holy crap, I’m feeling you there… Weddings can be so much emotional stress, all the planning and organising and juggling of family. But as I watched this casually epic day unfold I thought SURELY she won’t regret having such a memorable & hilarious day, jam-packed full of love & entertainment. Yeah, it might be beautiful & relaxing to just swap some vows alone on a mountain but it’s possibly much more incredible to harness the drama of planning a wedding, instead sharing your love & commitment with a crowd.
And holy heck this crowd was entertained!! From flowing prosecco and aperol spritz, a live artist who painted what happened on the day, as it happened (wtf!) and the surprise brass band that marched in after the ceremony. N’Orleans style! I felt like dancing on the rooftop.
The highlight was a ring BEAR(er) – yes an actual bear, okay, a guy dressed as a bear, delivered the ring.
The spunky design of The Standard Bar made for really cool photos
The bride wore a custom white mini dress with one big spankin’ tassle and later she changed into a tee & pants (that’s a first!)
The celebrant Andrew Pickering joined them pre-ceremony for whisky & pickle juice shots (note to self: must try!)
The photos were all taken in a block of the venue (most low key shoot ever)
