I was approached by an excited Jappalin from Flowertalk two months ago asking if I’d like to photograph some dogs with flowercrowns. Without a moments hesitation I was IN. I am a dog lover and a flowercrown lover and so to me this was a match made in photography heaven.
I seem to be photographing a lot of pets at weddings these days. Whether it’s a cat in a bowtie during getting ready pics or a Groodle ringbearer… I’ve noticed couples love to include their animals on the day because they consider them a huge part of their love story.
So with this brilliant florist we embraced the hounds in crowns vision and have created some inspiration (and work of arts) for dogs. We used buckets of in season flowers and more foraged from my neighbourhood… we even picked up two dogs from the street and asked if they could model!
Side note.. It wasn’t easy choosing a range of dogs from the numerous ‘model applications’. I felt quite horrible judging one Shar Pei over another and working out which colour Bulldog we wanted.. but that’s a “models lyfe”!
ZUES – Shar Pei
LOTTI – Pug
PEPPER – Sausage Dog
DOUGLAS – Maltese Shitzu
ROSIE – German Short Haired Pointer
MARMALADE – Cavoodle
PRESTON – English Cocker Spaniel
CIRCA – French Bulldog
MAPLE – Beagle
And then we had an hour to kill due to a no-show model dog. So we went hunting for more dogs in the neighbourhood!! First we bumped into this gorgeous creature, walking her owner…
VIOLET – Chocolate Labradoodle
And then there was this old guy who I must confess we stole from the carpark. I often see him mooching around so I thought he would scrub alright… or not…
BRUCE – Bitsa
Thanks goodness this isn’t smellovision.
And that night I brought my own dog into the ‘studio’ – being an ex-model he positioned himself without any need for treats or promises. So I photographed him too.
OSCAR – Portuguese Water Dog
Here are some of the behind the scenes making of…
